Extension of the baggage handling area at Firenze airport

Scope

Construction of the new extension to the BHS (Baggage Handling System) building at Firenze airport.

Commissioned by

Extension of the current BHS building at Firenze airport (side-by-side extension), aimed at upgrading the BHS/HBS1 system for in-line security screening of hold baggage with the inclusion of EDS Standard 3 equipment.

The main works, which were coordinated in tandem with airport operations, comprised of:

  • Construction of large diameter foundation piles;
  • Installation and laying of metal carpentry for the enlargement of the baggage handling area (BHS) of the Pisa airport terminal;
  • Installation of industrial rigid flooring for the new BHS;
  • Masonry work;
  • Installation of electrical, mechanical and fire-fighting systems in the BHS expansion area and their interface with the existing system.
